People criticize Ranbir Kapoor for making an insensitive joke about Alia Bhatt’s pregnancy weight gain!

Find out what he said!

Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor starrer Brahmastra is all set to release on September 9th. Directed by Ayan Mukherji, the movie is releasing in many languages, including Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam and Hindi. The actor couple who met on the sets of Brahmastra and fell in love, is going around promoting the film now. After Alia Bhatt and Ranbir Kapoor tied the knot in April, she took to her Instagram to announce that the couple was expecting their first child. Instead of congratulating them, many took to trolling her for getting pregnant just 2 months after her marriage. Some even went ahead to create rumours that she was pregnant even before she married Ranbir Kapoor.

After tackling rumours, and giving befitting replies, the duo have moved on with their careers. However, in a recent interview, Ranbir Kapoor has made an insensitive joke about Alia’s pregnancy weight gain. It is natural for a woman to gain weight when she is pregnant. However, it is highly insensitive to joke about it. During a live session on film promotion, the stars were seen talking about why they are not promoting Brahmastra in the way they do for other movies. Alia Bhatt replied, “We will promote the film, and we will be everywhere but if the question you are asking is why we are not phailod (talking about widespread promotion) everywhere, right now our focus is…”Ranbir Kapoor quickly pointed at his wife’s baby bump and said, “well I can say somebody has phailod (reference to her getting fat), adding he meant the comment as a joke.

The Hindi-English word ‘Phailod’ means widespread or larger. So, Ranbir suggested that Alia is currently large, given her pregnancy. Although he immediately called it a joke, we can see that Alia was dumbfounded when she was tackled with such a comment. Her expression changed into a sheepish smile after, and she eventually moved on. Now however, netizens have slammed Ranbir for such an insensitive comment about his wife.

Previously, Alia Bhatt had given a befitting reply to all the trolls. When Alia Bhatt was busy promoting her upcoming film ‘Darlings’ which is all set to release on August 5, she was asked how she felt about the absurd rumours and the trolling. Giving a befitting reply, she reportedly said, “Everything a woman does is put in the headlines. Whether she has decided to become a mother, she is dating somebody new; she is going to a cricket match or on holiday. For some reason, the eyeballs are always on women’s choices.”

On the work front, Alia is filming for Rocky or Rani ki Prem Kahani and Heart of Stone. Ranbir, who was last seen in Shamsera, is also awaiting the release of Bramhaastra, and is working on Animal with Rashmika Mandanna.
