No New Films For Deepika Padukone!

Do we hear wedding bells?!

Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone is yet to sign a film ever since her film Padmaavat released early this year. While it is speculated that she might be ready for marriage now, rumours were also doing the rounds that she is suffering from some neck and back problems that have stopped her from signing any new films.

A source tells Deccan Chronicle that she isn’t suffering from any problems nor is she preparing to get married. Instead, she has simply not signed any new film because the offers haven’t been too great.

“The reason Deepika is not signing anything new is because of the quality of roles coming her way. They are all big-banner films with top heroes. But nothing even remotely as author-backed or inspiring as Padmaavat.  At this stage in her career, Deepika is no more content playing the conventional leading lady. It has to be a script that offers her as much to do as the male protagonist,” DC quotes the source.

She was supposed to start shooting for Vishal Bhardwaj’s gangster drama, Sapna Didi this year, but that has now been stalled as her co-star Irrfan Khan is suffering from NeuroEndocrine Tumour.

Incidentally, Deepika, in a recent interview with Film Companion’s Anupama Chopra, said that there is a lack of good scripts being offered to her even though she would love to sign more projects. She also expressed an interest towards working in a light-hearted comedy. SHe also cited the kind of money big productions offering her as another problem, considering she was paid the highest for Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s last magnum opus.

Deepika last made headlines at the Met Gala with her fiery red Prabal Gurung gown, and then followed it up with her appearance at the Cannes Film Festival.

For Cannes, representing brand L’Oreal, Deepika wore a lovely Zuhair Murad gown with all things shiny and glittery all over it.

She turned a lot of heads at Palais for the premiere of Ash is Purest White. Her ruffled pink dress was an Ashi Studio creation.
