Nirupa Shankar: The Hospitality Baroness!

What an inspiration!

What are some of your major feats in the industry?

Currently, we have four operating hotels with another eight under various stages of development. What I am most happy about till date is creating the Brigade Real Estate Accelerator Programme (REAP). It is the country’s first accelerator programme that is focused on technology start-ups disrupting the Real Estate industry (including Residential, Office, Retail and Hospitality domains) with a vision to help improve efficiencies in the industry. Brigade REAP is one of the only accelerators to have partnered with large MNCs like Microsoft Ventures, CISCO, Intel, and JLL.

Brigade’s latest venture?

Holiday Inn Chennai, on the OMR IT Expressway. The hotel is iconic in its design and architecture. It’s often referred to as the “ship building.” The hotel is fantastically located for IT professionals working on OMR. It is also easily accessible from the city center. It has interesting food and beverage options for working professionals during the week, which has been met with encouraging feedback and lots of fun activities for children and families over the weekend.

What keeps you going when you are not in that business suit?

I love high-energy activities like running and swimming. I exercise almost every day to stay both physically and mentally fit. I also enjoy adventure sports. To relax, I like to write, by penning down my thoughts in a journal.
