The accused have finally been convicted after 4 and a half years of waiting. The Supreme Court has decided to uphold the Death Penalty for all the four accused. The death penalty has indeed been maintained by the Supreme Court. This is the final stop for the four convicts where they have been heard for the final time and a verdict has been passed. There were procedural lapses when they were heard in the trial court. The evidence was not discussed in-depth in the previous trials. The conspiracy behind the transparency of the case has also been opened up in the Supreme Court.

Every court starting from the trial court to the Delhi High Court have maintained the death sentence and were expecting the Supreme Court to maintain the same. This brutal murder and gang-rape is a reflection of the abhorrence of the society.

Nirbhaya’s father told NDTV, “It’s been 4 and a half years but I have only seen crimes against women increasing. The system is so unorganized that they are unable to find the loophole to reduce the crime. I hope this verdict will teach every offender a lesson. I have faith in the Supreme Court and I hope they get nothing but the death penalty.”
