Reciprocating to this, the Nadigar Sangam released a statement condemning the sexual assault saying that immediate action must be taken against the culprit. In the statement, Nadigar Sangam president Nasser said that the incident reflected how there was a complete lack of safety and security for women — be it a popular actor or commoner. Vice-president of the Nadigar Sangam association Ponvannan along with the other members submitted a representation to the Chief Minister of Kerala and the State police chief.
In an interview to the media, he said, “The actor was getting back from a shoot that night. Many actors have to travel for hours on the road if they are shooting in remote locations to get to their hotels or the nearest airport at odd hours.”
“Actors should check with the production unit about drivers assigned to them and ensure that they are safe. Nadigar Sangam will have a discussion with the producers’ council about implementing more safety measures for artists,” he concluded.
Varalaxmi in her tweet mentioned that she was sexually harassed and that in the entertainment industry this was considered persuasive and normal. What many fail to understand is that the word “NO” is very strong and one must learn to understand that No means No irrespective of its normalcy.
