A career span of 23 years, Mithali Raj’s name is synonymous with Indian women’s cricket. She is a brilliant player and a great captain. During her time as captain, she made the world sit up and watch women’s cricket.
At the age of 10, Mithali represented the State at the Under 16 tournament. What began from there was a fuelling tryst in the sport of cricket. Mithali scored a marvellous 114 runs in her debut at the One Day International in 1999 against Ireland. Mithali Raj at 19 emerged as one of India’s most capable batsmen with an impressive 214 against England in the second and final Test at Taunton, breaking the record of the world’s highest individual test score.
Without resting on past laurels, Mithali has continued to set the bar high with her trail of feats: she has scored 49 half centuries, which is the most by any international woman cricketer. This year, the tenacious skipper led India to the ICC ODI World Cup final for the second time. Here, she fronted her 6th ODI hundred, hitting the 6000-run mark.In June 2018 during the 2018 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup, Mithali Raj became the first player from India (either male or female) to score 2000 runs in T20Is and also set the milestone for becoming the first woman cricketer to reach 2000 T20I runs.
