A rockstar in her own right, Mithali Raj has merely added another feather to her cap. She has beaten former England captain Charlotte Edward’s record, playing 191 ODIs in 19 years.
Just last year, Mithali became the highest run-getter in T20Is, surpassing other male players including Rohit Sharma and Indian men’s team captain Virat Kohli. With 2283 T20I runs back then, she beat them by a fair margin with their scores being 2207 and 2102 runs in T20Is respectively.
In April last year, she created the record of becoming the most capped woman’s cricketer in the 50-overs format at the ICC Women’s Championship ODI series.
Considered to be a prolific batswoman, Mithali Raj has set and broken many records in the past. She is the highest run-scorer in women’s international cricket and the only female cricketer to surpass the 6,000 run mark in WODIs. She is the first player to score 7 consecutive 50s in ODIs. Raj also holds the record for most half-centuries in WODIs. In June 2018 during the 2018 Women’s Twenty20 Asia Cup, Mithali Raj became the first player from India (either male or female) to score 2000 runs in T20Is and also set the milestone for becoming the first woman cricketer to reach 2000 T20I runs.
Raj made her debut for India back in June 1999 for India against Ireland in Milton Keynes, wherein she scored an unbeaten 114 to a massive 161-runs win for her side.
Towards the end of last year, a massive controversy broke out when she was dropped for the World Cup semi-final. India did lose and the defeat was by a huge margin.
