Mary Kom Named ‘Best Boxer In The World’ After Her 6th Title!!

Inspiring!

Mary Kom, Indian boxer hailing from Manipur, has achieved a feat that no one has ever managed! She is the only woman to become World Amateur Boxing champion for a record six times, and the only woman boxer to have won a medal in each one of the seven world championships.

Speaking at the official press conference, Mary Kom spoke of her participation in the New Delhi event held in 2006.  “At that time, boxers from fewer countries had participated. It was not even included in the Olympics. Though we won eight medals, four gold included but competition is much tough nowadays and considering the fact, our results here (one gold, a silver and two bronze medals) were great,” said Mary Kom.

Despite suffering from diarrhoea, Mary beat her opponent, Ukraine’s Hanna Okhota in the Light Fly Weight category, 5-0 to clinch historic gold at the Women World Championship.

Mary previously won the gold medal on five occasions – 2002, 2002, 2005, 2006, 2008, 2010 – besides bagging a silver on her debut in 2001.

Dubbed as ‘Magnificent Mary’, people all over have been pouring congratulatory messages for India’s pride! She celebrated her win with her third son.
