Incidentally, soon after the release of Mahanati, rumours did the rounds that Keerthy Suresh wants to play Jayalalithaa on screen but she refuted the news saying that she will not be starring in biopics for a long time.
Several filmmakers have said that they intend on making a film on the former CM’s life. Tamil director Ravi Ratnam recently announced that he will make a biopic on her. Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma had also announced a similar biopic, but focusing on Jayalalithaa’s confidante, Sasikala.
Having begun her career as an actress, Jayalalitha entered politics in 1982, joining MGR’s AIADMK party. She was elected the Chief Minister in 1991 and was re-elected in 2001, 2011, 2015, and 2016. She died of acute sepsis and suffered a cardiac arrest on December 5, 2016.
