The movie Sangamithra, directed by Sundar C released its first look at the 2017 Cannes Festival. Sundar C, AR Rahman, the lead cast, and art director Sabu were present at the festival.
However, the actress in a statement released that she will be backing out of the magnum opus. In a press release, the actress said, “Shruti has, unfortunately, had to take a call not to be part of ‘Sangamithra’.
Knowing it was a massive undertaking and a long commitment spanning over 2 years, she knew the importance of her training, a comprehensive script and proper date calendar.”
Khushbu, before quitting Twitter made statements indirectly lashing out at the actress. She said, “Expect a little more of professionalism from ppl who carry a legacy..looking in 2 ur own mistakes n accepting it humbly helps u go a long way.”
“4 a movie like #Sangamitra shooting part is just 30%..70% of the work is done b4 shooting..blaming others 4 ur own shortcomings..sour grapes?”
“I see sum1 making weird comments abt #Sangamitra script not being ready..work has by being on 4 the last 2yrs..unprofessional do not know..”
“A film like #Sangamitra which will be one of the costliest films ever made in India cannot be made without proper planning.”
The producers of the film, Sri Thenandal Films, are in no mood to abandon the project just because the then lead actress Shruti Haasan withdrew herself from the period drama.
Hema Rukmani, CEO of Sri Thenandal Films, told a tabloid, “We have found a replacement for Shruti and we are waiting for the right time to announce it.”
