Kamal Haasan’s Iconic Character is back!

We’ve missed Senapathy!

Years after the film released, Tamil film Indian’s sequel has begun shooting. On the occasion of Pongal 2019, the first posters of Indian 2, starring Kamal Haasan, were released. Director S Shankar announced that he’ll start filming the sequel to his 1996 hit film today and he also revealed that in Indian 2, Kamal Haasan’s Senapathy will be “older, wiser and deadlier.”

Kamal and filmmaker Shankar will be uniting for the project after a very long time and the film is taken on by Lyca Productions. A multi-lingual, music will be composed by Anirudh Ravichander, replacing A R Rahman who was unable to schedule dates for the project. Kamal will reprise the role of freedom fighter cum vigilante Senapathy, who was fondly known as ‘Indian Thatha’. The film focuses on how the character works to eliminate all corrupt officers from government offices. The original’s ending showed Senapathy escaping a deadly blast. Two decades later, he will be older and would delve more into this theme of corruption and vigilantism.

The team also shared a picture from the sets of the film, that started out today.

The cast, apart from Kamal Haasan, also includes Kajal Aggarwal. Ajay Devgn is reportedly playing the villain in the film. Kamal Haasan, who has forayed into politics launching his party Makkal Needhi Maiyam, has Sabhash Naidu, a spin-off on the Dasavatharam character Balram Naidu, to finish. He also has Thevar Magan too in the pipeline. His film Vishwaroopam 2 released in August last year and as of 2018, he was periodically shooting for Vijay TV’s reality show Bigg Boss Tamil 2 before it came to an end in September.
