Directed by Radha Mohan, the film was officially launched on June 4 with a pooja and has shot for one day so far. Sources say that the film’s sets have been relaxed so far, with no glitches. And what’s best? Jyothika manages to perfectly emulate her inner house wife-turned-RJ! She looked radiant at the pooja yesterday, in a saree that resembles something Vidya Balan wore in the film.
Actor Suriya Sivakumar was also present to support his wife.
Her father-in-law Sivakumar was present too.
The remake is looking to release in October this year. The film stars Vidhaarth as Jyothika’s husband and has Lakshmi Manchu playing Neha Dhupia’s role from the original. The Hindi film was about a housewife who longs to do something for herself and is then introduced to the world of RJing. She becomes a late night show host for a radio channel and becomes an instant hit. The film was directed by Suresh Triveni and went on to do garner much applause from critics and audience alike.
When she signed on the project, Jyothika said in a statement: “I’m a big Vidya (Balan) fan. I love her voice and command over Hindi, which is rare in Bollywood today. I’ve watched every Vidya film, andTumhari Sulu, in my opinion, is her most lovable work. I feel honoured to be stepping into her shoes. Kudos to the producers and to director Suresh (Triveni) for making such a lively, honest, real and feel-good film.Tumhari Sulu is a hugely special film for me.”
Produced by G Dhananjayan’s BOFTA Media Works, Mahesh Muthusami will crank the camera while Praveen KL will be the editor. National Award winning costume designer Poornima Ramasamy is also on board for the film, with music by AH Kaashif.
Jyothika also has Mani Ratnam’s Chekka Chivantha Vaanam in the pipeline, wherein she’ll be seen sharing the screen space with Arvind Swami, STR, Aditi Rao Hydari, Aishwarya Rajesh, Vijay Sethupathi, and Arun Vijay.
