In November last year, Vidya Balan featured in the fun yet emotional film ‘Tumhari Sulu’ and gave the characters of housewives a new lease of life, where the film focused on her perspective and the trials and tribulations of a middle-class family who dream middle-class dreams but occasionally have a way to slip out of that world.
The Tamil version, starring Jyothika in the titular role, is a carbon copy of the film barring a few differences. If Vidya Balan’s Sulochana had a sexy ‘hello’ to her greeting, Jyothika’s Vijayalakshmi has a more raspy one. Amidst all this, everything looks more colourful, a shade happier as opposed to sunny in the original.
The original was directed by Suresh Triveni and also starred Neha Dhupia and Maneesh Kaul. This Tamil remake is directed by Radha Mohan and features actor Vidhaart and Lakshmi Manchu. And if Ayushman Khurrana had a cameo in the original as himself, in this one actor STR makes a cameo, with him ending the trailer with his usual sermonic dialogue. The film is slated for a November 16 release.
