Apollo Speciality Hospitals, Perungudi’s lab technician G Dilli Babu, 21, was arrested by the police for molesting a sedated women. The 30-year-old woman had a knee surgery scheduled on June 6. Before her surgery she was given anesthesia only for the lower part of the body. The woman said Dilli Babu stood behind her for a while and touched her inappropriately thinking she was unconscious.
She was not in a state to call for help even when the doctors were performing another surgery in the same room.
She reported the issue immediately after the surgery and later filed a complaint. The hospital initially dismissed any such happenings and further blamed it on the patient’s mental health.
The woman had also written to Union minister of women and child development Smriti Irani about the abuse seeking for a government intervention.
Speaking on the episode, the vice-chairman of Apollo Hospitals says that they have zero tolerance to harassment and promises a quick and strict action after the enquiry. Police have arrested Dilli Babu on charges of sexual harassment.
