Hima Das Is India’s First Youth Ambassador For UNICEF

Proud moment!

On the occasion of Children’s Day (November 14), the United Nations Children’s Fund-India (Unicef-India) appointed Asian Games gold-medalist sprinter Hima Das as the country’s first ever youth ambassador. Taking to social media, UNICEF India made the announcement in Delhi.

The athlete extended her gratitude to UNICEF on her social media handle and urged everybody to ‘go blue’.

Hima Das is known for creating a record in July this year. She got India its first ever track gold at a global event by winning the 400 metre final at the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland. Her performance at the Asian Games was still a tad better than her performance at Finland, as she had clocked in 51.46 seconds at the Ratina Stadium, Finland. All of 18, hailing from Assam, and has created world history, she is coached by Nipon Das and is the daughter of a rice farmer from Dhing village in Nagaon district.
