Harnaaz Sandhu crowned Miss Universe 2021!

India’s Harnaaz Sandhu was titled Miss Universe 2021 in the 70th Miss Universe 2021, which was held in Eliat, Israel. She brings home the crown 21 years after Lara Dutta, who was crowned Miss Universe in 2000.

Harnaaz Sandhu who represented India is a 21-yr-old from Punjab. She beat Paraguay’s Nadia Ferreira and South Africa’s Lalela Mswane to bag the crown. She was presented the crown by former Miss Universe 2020, Andrea Meza.

Harnaaz Sandhu is the third Indian to have won the title. Previously only Sushmitha Sen (1994) and Lara Dutta (2000) have been crowned Miss Universe from India. On being asked what advice she would give to young women on how to deal with the pressures they face, a composed Ms Sandhu said, “The biggest pressure the youth of today is facing is to believe in themselves, to know that you are unique and that’s what makes you beautiful. Stop comparing yourselves with others and let’s talk about more important things that’s happening worldwide.”

A video of her chanting ‘Chak De Phatte India’ in excitment after winning the crown is going viral on social media. Miss World 2000 Priyanka Chopra,  Sushmitha Sen and Lara Dutta were among others who congratulated Harnaaz for her prestigious win.

Ms Sandhu, who started her journey in pageantry at the age of 17, has previously been crowned Miss Diva 2021, Femina Miss India Punjab 2019 and was even placed in the Top 12 at Femina Miss India 2019. She has also worked in Punjabi films like “Yaara Diyan Poo Baran” and “Bai Ji Kuttange”. It is indeed a very proud moment for India and Indians!
