Popularly known as Surya’s brother, Actor Karthi made his mark in the Kollywood industry with his stellar performances and block busters. He is not a quintessential mainstream Tamil hero, he had his own way of choosing films and characters. On the occasion of his 44th birthday, let’s take a look at the six notable performances the actor has given on screen.

  • Paruthiveeran (2007)

The actor bagged a Filmfare award in his debut film. He played a village thug in this heart-wrenching rural drama and delivered a raw and powerful performance with left the audience in awe. Karthi aced the role of Paruthiveeran by sporting thick beard, dirty shirts and lungis. Even today, we see people going crazy for his “Enna mama Sowkiyama” dialogue.

  • Aayirathil Oruvan (2010)

Following his biggest hit, the actor did a fantasy film with Director Selvaraghavan. In this film, Karthi was a taskmaster and leads a team of portals in a high-risk archaeology mission. He was a local Chennai guy, with a rustic and foul behavior and a good heart. Though this film didn’t hit the box office, it has gained a cult status among movie fans since.

  • Siruthai (2011)

A dual role subject, Karthi did the role a sincere police officer and contrary to that his other character was a thief. The 2011 action film was the remake of director SS Rajamouli’s Vikramarkudu, Karthi proved that he could excel in comedy and action at once. Siruthai was again a block buster hit and Karthi earned a huge fan base in this Action-comedy.

  • Madras (2014)

After a series of flops, Karthi gave a comeback with Pa Ranjith’s Madras. Karthi played a dynamic youngster with a quick fuse whose loyalty to his childhood friend is the reason behind his downfall and eventual redemption. The film discussed caste, politics in modern-day Chennai. The film gave a new lease of lives to all the actors and technicians associated.

  • Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru (2017)

Well researched and delivered, Theeran Adhigaaram Ondru is not a usual cop story. The film narrates a real-life police operation conducted by the Tamil Nadu cops in the early 2000s. Directed by H Vinoth, the film was unanimously appreciated by critics and eventually went on to become a commercial hit. And it has Karthi delivering one of the best performances of his film career.

  • Kaithi (2019)

After Virumaandi, Kaithi captured audience with its action sequence. Not all stars have guts to act in a film which lack heroine and songs.
