Hansika’s smoking case to be heard on Friday

Maha has Hansika playing several roles

A case has been registered on actress Hansika Motwani over the first look poster of her latest movie Maha. When the pictures of the movie were out, it triggered in some controversy as it featured Hansika smoking wearing saffron clothes. It also had sadhus lying at her feet, against the backdrop of Varanasi. The case filed against the actress is up for hearing on Friday at Ranipet court in Vellore.

Hansika who has so far played the girl-next-door role will be seen in a full-fledged woman-centric movie for the first time. Maha is a thriller and Hansika’s character is said to have several variations. This movie could be a milestone for the actress and would help her fans remember her for the character.  This is the actresses 50th films.

Maha is written and directed by debutant UR Jameel, who was the former associate of director Lakshman.  The poster of the movie was unveiled by Dhanush recently. It has music by Ghibran.

Hansika was last seen in Prabhudeva’s Gulebaghavali, where she played a con-artist. Her upcoming movies include Atharvaa’s 100 and Vikram Prabhu’s Thuppakki Munai. Although both are cop stories, Thuppaki Munai is said to be a stylish action film.

Hansika Motwani is also the latest addition to the star cast of the NTR biopic in Telugu titled Kathanayakudu. The actress will reprise the role of actress Jayapradha. The movie features Ramaraa’s son Balakrishna aka Balayya. It is directed by Krish. Hansika is said to be undergoing a physical makeover for the role. She will be seen shaking a leg with Balayya in the songs ‘Olammi Thikkareginda‘ and ‘Chilaka Kottudu Kodithe‘ from Yamagola movie and ‘Amma Thodu Abba Thodu’ from Adavi Ramudu. Hansika recently acted in her first Malayalam movie Villain. She shared the screen with Mohanlal.

While she is busy on the professional front, the actress is also making time for her philanthropic activities. She is constructing an old age home and an orphanage on the outskirts of Mumbai.

Meanwhile, this is not the first time an actor is getting into trouble over smoking scenes in movies. Remember Vijay was also in the soup for the first look poster of his recently released movie Sarkar. Vishal also received flak for coming out with a similar poster.  Even few political parties and NGOs opposed actors coming out with posters that promote evil habits. They said filmmakers should have a social responsibility and should not promote smoking and drinking through their works.
