- Nayanthara aka is Diana Mariam Kurien had a father who was in Air Force due to which she did her schooling in various parts of the country.
- While she was doing her Bachelors in English, she had a passion for modeling. Hence, she decided to balance part-time modeling along with her.
- She made her film debut in 2003 with the Malayalam movie ‘Manasinnakare’ after which she made her Tamil Debut in the year 2005 with the movie ‘Ayya’ in the year 2005.
- While shooting for ‘Ayya’, Nayanthara was chosen for a pivotal role in the movie ‘Chandramukhi’ alongside Superstar Rajinikanth and Jyothika.
- She was critically appreciated from her very first movies for her acting. She made her Telugu debut in the same year in the movie ‘Lakshmi’.
When was she well noticed after that?
- It was in the year 2006 when she took up the role of a lecturer in the movie ‘Vallavan’ alongside Kollywood actor T R Silambarasan. Many reviewed her acting to be classy and that she had done justice to her role. Although the movie had mixed reviews, she took away the best to act among the lot review with her.
- Two years were a struggle for the actress until she bagged in a role in VishnuVardhan directed film ‘Billa’ starring Ajith Kumar and Namitha.

What happened after she took an 11-month break?
- After her 11-month break from acting, she made a comeback with one of the mega-blockbusters of all time ‘Raja Rani’ alongside Arya, Jai, Nazriya and directed by Atlee.
- She was unstoppable after that. She played a female lead in the Ajith Kumar starrer ‘Aarambam’. We could also see this movie that she had a major fashion makeover – be it from her styling or her clothing. We really loved the transformation.
- It was then that Nayan had the idea of doing heroine -centric film. She took up the role for the remake of the Vidya Balan starrer Hindi movie ‘Kahani’. A bilingual ‘Anamika’ in Malayalam and ‘Nee Enge En Anbe’ in Tamil was a critically appreciated film. It is also a rarity that a heroine-centric genre is even an option.
Was that when she acclaimed the ‘Lady Superstar’ title?
- Whether she acted in women-centric movies like ‘Maya’ or be it movies with a male lead like ‘Naanum Rowdy Dhan’, Nayanthara owned all of the roles and topped everyone else in the movie.
- Be it her role as the Queen from ‘Kaashmora’ or be it her amazing acting in ‘Bhaskar The Rascal’, she was exceptional and sported extremely complicated, difficult yet did like it was a piece of cake for her. That’s when she was gradually acclaimed as the Lady Superstar.
