Though the look has garnered a positive response, some ridiculed the actress for being cast as a goddess as she is usually portrayed glamorously onscreen. There was one tweet that stated, “These dimwits do not even have the common sense to figure out who should play Amman roles.”
Giving a befitting reply to this comment, RJ Balaji retorted saying, “Durgai Raj… the Goddess in your name should give you wisdom.”
While interviewing him, RJ Balaji said that he wanted, “someone with a larger-than-life image” to play the role of Amman. He also said, “I did not write this role particularly for Nayanthara, though I wanted someone of her stature… an actress with that majestic screen presence.” It was an unexpected call from the Lady Superstar that made him narrate this script to her, he added.
Earlier Radha Ravi had shamed Nayanthara for earlier for a similar reason where the actor said that women like Nayanthara cannot even be imagined in the role of an actress. Nayanthara then reminded him through a press release that answered every man who body-shames or slut-shames another woman at public forums.
On the professional front, Nayanthara is currently shooting for Thalaivar 169 directed by Siva, Mookuthi Amman directed by RJ Balaji, Netri Kann produced by Vignesh Shivan and Kaathuvaakkula Rendu Kadhal starring Vijay Sethupathi and Samantha Akkineni in the lead and directed by Vignesh Shivan.
