The collection was launched in the show and all the guests that involved the participants of the show along with the three players who are left in the show were presented outfits from the brand.
The Social Cause behind the brand:
Kamal Hassan recently visited the weavers of kancheepuram. He looked at their difficult plight. The efforts they put in and how less they get paid. The craft is dying and Kamal Hassan it is up to the youngsters to save it, to retrieve it. “I visited a number of weavers thousands and thousands of them who were not having jobs and livelihood. I want this brand to be a way to give them jobs.” said Kamal Haasan.
On previous episode Kamal Hassan was seen wearing a smart ivory coloured khadi suit that started a conversation. When the housemates appreciated his look he explained what he was wearing and in the process made quite an exciting revelation.
“Yes I’m wearing handloom khadi suit. I recently got to meet a few weavers, and after that my approach to dressing has changed. I think my father’s habit (of only wearing khadi) will come to me too. But that should come to you too.” He said
“Choice is life, what you wear is your choice too and Khadi should also be in your options. I visited weavers home. They are still doing what they do just for the reason that they don’t want the art to die. These artists are still continuing their art though it is not giving them a livelihood. They won’t be able to continue for long.” He further explained
“When I spoke to them I couldn’t help but tear up. But I have decided to start a fashion line. The next generation should step in to help. It is such a beautiful art that should not fade away”
“There is nothing Kamal sir cannot pull off. He is someone who understands style in and out. No matter what he wears, he coherently adds his personality and attitude to it; that just gives the entire look a unique appeal. He would give me pointers to help me style him better. I would mention ideas and post-discussion, it would invariably take up a beautiful form,” says Amritha Ram Kamal Hassan personal stylist.
“When I showed him the ombre Khadi suit one day he was amazed. I suggested him that we should start a Khadi Line. Kamal sir has always spoken to me about the connect he had with the fabric. He talks about his father how he worked in the pre-independence moment and how he used khadi. And my love for Indian handloom, fabric, patterns is not new.”
The Khadi outfits stylist Amritha puts together are a refreshing take to what Khadi is usually synonymous to; dull, boring or just too Indian. She keeps away from going too traditional and throws the fabric into a complete new light that is elegant, magistic yet somehow trendy and swag!
“We all know the craft is dying but we can’t let that happen. Someone like Kamal sir can really create a positive impact. Now we are experimenting with dying, textures, patterns and everything to do with khadi. By 2021 it’ll be great to see khadi in global map. Oscars next year should have at least two three khadi look. Why not?” She ends in a positive note leaving us wondering is it really happening.
