In November last year, Vidya Balan featured in the fun yet emotional film Tumhari Sulu gave the characters of housewives a new lease of life, where the film focused on her perspective and the trials and tribulations of a middle class family who dream middle class dreams but occasionally have a way to slip out of that world.
The Tamil version, starring Jyothika in the titular role, is a carbon copy of the film barring a few differences. If Vidya Balan’s Sulochana had a sexy ‘hello’ to her greeting, Jyothika’s Vijayalakshmi has a more raspy one. Amidst all this, everything looks more colourful, a shade more happier as opposed to sunny in the original. However, there’s a lot of hope here as the story in itself is a fun one and with the hype reaching its peak, the film might just live up to the original’s charm.
The original was directed by Suresh Triveni and also starred Neha Dhupia and Maneesh Kaul. This Tamil remake is directed by Radha Mohan and features actor Vidhaart and Lakshmi Manchu. The film is set for an October 18 release, coincidentally being Jyothika’s birthday.

Meanwhile, Jyo will also star in Chekka Chivantha Vaanam that is slated to release on September 27, 2018. Directed by Mani Ratnam, the film stars Arvind Swami, Vijay Sethupathi, STR, Arun Vijay, Jyothika, Aditi Rao Hydari and Aishwarya Rajesh. Jyothika plays Chithra in the film.
