Mani Ratnam, who has been busy with his magnum opus Ponniyin Selvan, was last seen in the teaser launch event of the film, which happened on 8th July, at Chennai Trade Centre. Ever since, the team has frequently been giving us updates about the movie which is all set to release on September 30th. Recently, a court notice was also sent to Mani Ratnam and Vikram, regarding the representation of the Cholas in the film.

The recent update however is that the director has reportedly been hospitalised. The reason stated is that he has apparently tested positive for Covid 19. The exact health updates are yet to come and it is reported that he is admitted in Chennai’s Apollo Hospital. Fans are eagerly awaiting for a bulletin update from the doctors themselves.

Ponniyin Selvan is originally a Tamil novel based on the life of Raja Raja Chola, written by Kalki. While there have been several attempts in the past to make it as a film, Mani Ratnam has now started this project, which will be released in two parts. Starring Vikram, Jayam Ravi, Trisha, Aishwarya Rai, Aishwarya Lekshmi and Sarathkumar in lead roles, this is considered to be Mani Ratnam’s magnum opus. The teaser of the film was released recently after the team was revealing characters one by one. The film is bankrolled by Lyca Productions and Madras Talkies. The music director for the movie is AR Rahman.  PS-1 is slated for a worldwide release on September 30, 2022, in Tamil, Hindi, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.
