Dipa Karmakar creates history as first Indian woman gymnast to qualify for Rio Olympics 2016

Also wins gold at Rio event!

Indians on social media across the country applauded Dipa Kamarkar, 22, for her historic achievement. She qualified to take part in the Rio Olympics at the qualifying tests held in Rio De Janeiro. Dipa not only qualified as the first Indian woman gymnast but also won gold at the  Rio event on April 19.

Dipa hails from Tripura and garnered a total score of 52.698 points in the qualifying event. Also, apart from being the first Indian woman to qualify she is also the first Indian to qualify for the quadrennial extravaganza after 52 years. Way to go Dipa!!
