Constable suspended for assaulting three women in Tiruvallur district

Following the widespread circulation of a video showing a police head constable in Tiruvallur district assaulting three women, including a pregnant lady, the Superintendent of Police ordered his suspension and the launch of a probe.

The incident which occurred on June 23 morning (Monday), drew severe flak from opposition members including TN BJP state president Naina Nagentthran, the AIADMK and the PMK, who sought immediate action against the perpetrator.

The constable, identified as Raman, assaulted the women and yelled at them when they arrived at the police station to follow-up on sexual assault charges they had filed against a man. But after listening to their explanation of the case, the constable is said to have sided with the man and assaulted the women.

The police stated that once investigations conclude, action will be taken against the constable.
