According to The New Indian Express, Parthiben and Mythili, who were woking together at a textile shop in Anna Nagar, were in a relationship fo the past two and a half years. However, due to an injured leg, Parthiben had to quit his job six months back. Also, Mythili’s father fell ill which made her the sole breadwinner of the family. Owing to family responsibilities, according to TNIE, Mythili wanted to end the relationship but Parthiben would not have any of it.
“Parthiben followed her up to a street in Vivekananda Nagar and wanted to know the reason for ending their relationship. The duo started fighting and in a fit of rage Parthiben, poured kerosene on her and set her on fire and the victim ran in the street for about 100 meters. And within minutes, he set himself also ablaze,” a senior police officer has told TNIE. Residents in the locality reportedly rushed the duo to a hospital.
In April, a 22-year-old man hammered his girlfriend to death over her decision to end the relationship with him. He took her to Mahabalipuram under the pretense of meeting her one last time and giving her a birthday gift and killed her.
Last year, the murder of Infosys employee Swathi in broad daylight at a train station by her stalker shook the entire city.
