She was reportedly staying at the hotel with her fiance Hemanth, a businessman. The couple was engaged to be married shortly. Chitra had told Hemanth to take a walk while she takes a shower. Hemanth, later grew suspicious when the actress took a longer time to call him back. When he went on to check, he had found her hanging herself.
After first investigations with Hemanth and the hotel’s manager, a popular regional news channel has reported that Hemanth and Chitra had a legal register marriage a few months ago and are infact husband and wife. After primary investigation from Hemanth, the Police will next enquite the team with whom Chitra was last shooting.
Several from the television and the film industry expressed their grief and condolences.

On the work front, Chitra is known for her performance in serials like Saravanan Meenatchi, Velunachi, Darling Darling, Mannan Magal and Chinna Papa Periya Papa, to name a few.
As a dancer, Chithra took part as one of the contestants of the show Jodi Fun Unlimited also.
