Bigg Boss Tamil: All You Need To Know About This Season’s Contestants!

Know them all!

The new Bigg Boss Tamil season is back to dominate your conversations and television sets. Last year, the collective opinion led to contestant Oviya becoming everybody’s favourite. There were bullies, too, that were rightfully called out and there were those who simply stayed the same. And finally, Aarav ended up as the big winner.

This season though, while it is a motley crew of people, one can’t help but draw comparison to who will replace whom this year. Here’s a bit you need to know about this season’s contestants:

Yashika Anand

She’s all of 18 and is a popular model on Instagram, known for style and risque photos. She is also an actress, having made her debut in the Tamil film in Kavalai Vendaam, then Dhuruvangal Pathinaaru, and most recently Iruttu Araiyil Murattu Kuththu. She’s the youngest in the house and considering her social media status, we wonder if she’ll face major withdrawal symptoms being without social media for a while. Could she be the Raiza Wilson of this season?

Ponnambalam

An actor in the Tamil industry, Ponnambalam often played the antagonist or starred in extra roles. He got his first break into films with the blockbuster Walter Vetrivel in which he played the role of the villain Kabali. He received the nickname “Spare Parts” Ponnambalam because no part of his body was ever injured or fractured. Being a fitness freak, Ponnambalam could be this year’s Ganesh Venkatraman.

Mahat

Mahat Raghavendra began with a small role in STR’s film Vallavan. But more than anything, he’s known for his role in Mankatha. He went on to star in other films including Biriyani, Vada Curry, Chennai 28 II, and most recently Anbanavan Asaradhavan Adangadhavan. He’s said to be good friends with STR and was also known for dating actress Taapsee Pannu and having a public fight with Manoj Manchu.

Daniel Annie Pope

Before he became a comedy actor, Daniel Annie Pope was known for his mimicry. He also achieved a Guinness record for longest theatre play for 72 hours without break in 2007 and starred in several theatre plays. Film-wise, he starred in Polladhavan, Idharkuthane Aasaipattai Balakumara, Maragadha Naanayam, Thiri, Rangoon, and others.

Vaishnavi

Vaishnavi is the granddaughter of popular journalist-writer Sa.Viswanathan. She is an RJ, teacher, social media strategist and animal welfare activist. She also is a stand-up comic, biker and an avid traveller. While little is known about her, most people have already started referring to her as this year’s Julie, the common man among the celebrities. But given her entry, she might be the better pick.

Janani Iyer

Janani Iyer is a popular face in Chennai. An Engineering graduate, Janani is known as the Thegidi girl. She was in last year’s Adhe Kangal and Balloon. She has also starred in Malayalam films and has a few movies in the pipeline. Many think that she might be this season’s Bindu Madhavi!

Ananth Vaidyanathan

A voice expert, Ananth Vaidyanathan is a part of the Airtel Super Singer where he gives voice training to contestants. He has acted in films, too, and is being regarded as this year’s Snehan perhaps?

Ramya NSK

She is a singer and has sung a lot of songs for Tamil films. She is the granddaughter of comedian N. S. Krishnan and T. A. Mathuram. People on social media, for some reason, are not that excited about her entry. Could she be this season’s Gayathri? Only time will tell.

Senrayan

Senrayan plays similar roles each time. A comedian and a dancer, he has starred in films such as Moodar Koodam and Metro. While he has gone on to star in a lot of films as the comic relief or a petty criminal, Senrayan comes across as quite a funny man who speaks quite a bit. Could he be this year’s Bharani?

Riythvika

She made her cinema debut in Bala’s intense film Paradesi. She went on to feature in Pa Ranjith’s Madras and Kabali, and even won awards for her role. She might be this season’s Anuya Bhagwath.

Mumtaz

Hailing from Mumbai, Mumtaz has appeared as an item girl in several item numbers, and also in lead and supporting roles. She has also played a judge for reality shows. While it has been a while since she appeared on screen, this stint might bring her back on the map. On social media, many are comparing her to last season’s Namitha.

Bhalajie

Bhalajie is a television and cinema actor, best known for his roles in Thamizhan, Mappillai, Sura, and Lingaa. Being a comedy actor, many have liked his films. He was accused of harassing his wife, Nithya, and the two had an ugly fight in public that went on for a while in addition to the latter lodging a complaint against him. She is also a contestant this season. Could he be this season’s Ganja Karappu?

Mamathi Chari

Having acted in soap operas and playing anchor for shows, Mamathi Chari has studied medicine as a huge animal lover. She briefly disappeared from the industry but made a comeback later. On social media, people are already excited about her entry.

Nithya

Nithya is the estranged wife of Bhalajie. She alleged harassment last year and had lodged a complaint against him. She runs an NGO for women it is reported.

Shariq Hassan

Son of Riyaz and Uma Riyaz Khan, Shariq made his acting debut with Pencil. Being quite a fitness freak and known for his modelling, people are already pegging him to be this season’s Aarav.

Aishwarya Dutta

Hailing from Kolkata, this Bengali beauty has starred in a few Tamil films including Payam Puli and Saathriyan. She made her debut in Tamilukku En Ondrai Aluthavum.
