Nithya, who is an entrepreneur and NGO but is best known for being a participant in the second season of the reality show Bigg Boss Tamil, has become the president of the Tamil Nadu wing of the National Women’s Party. The party, said to be India’s first-ever all-women political party, had launched its state unit on Wednesday.

According to the founder of the party – Dr Shwetha Shetty – the NWP will contest in 283 of the total 543 Lok Sabha seats in the upcoming elections, adding that the party’s main aim is to ensure 50 per cent reservation for women in Lok Sabha.

Nithya, who spearheads ‘WE’ – Women Endeavor an ‘enclave for women reformation, welfare and rehabilitation’, shared the news on social media with pictures.

Nithya regularly organises events for orphanages, women destitute and other work via her NGO.

As a participant of the reality show, Nithya was in the same house as her husband Balajie, a comedian from Tamil cinema. The two had been separated for a while, with many speculating that they would reunite with the show. However, post her exit, she had mentioned that she will be pulling on as a single mother.
