Speaking about her victory despite being defeated at the finals, Sindhu said that she put in all her effort possible. “There were matches where I was about to lose but I fought back and won. I shouldn’t be sad for not winning the gold as the overall competition was fantastic. It was a proud moment for the country having two Indians on the podium,” she said, the second Indian being Saina Nehwal who won bronze for the country.
Meanwhile, congratulatory messages have been pouring in for the sportswoman.

Winning for 23-year-old PV Sindhu is nothing new. Her achievements include becoming the first Indian woman to win an Olympic silver medal, and one of the two Indian badminton players to ever win an Olympic medal – other being Saina Nehwal. Recently, she won silver in Women’s singles at Commonwealth Games 2018.
Sindhu has been creating waves in the sports field. She made her debut in the coveted Forbes list of Highest-Paid Female Athletes 2018. The 23-year-old has been ranked 7, with earnings of $8.5 million. According to the list, she earned $8.5 million between June 2017 and June 2018, including $8 million from sponsorships and $500,000 in prize money.
She stormed into the scene when she pocketed the silver medal at the Rio Olympics 2016 and there’s been no looking back since. Her rank is just one below American tennis player Venus Williams, while Serena Williams has been ranked number 1.
