Asian Games 2018: Women’s Archery Team Wins Silver; Special Mention For Jyothi Surekha Vennam!

Lots to be proud of!

The sky’s the limit for Indian sportswomen this year, particularly with respect to their performance at the Asian Games. While both the Indian men’s and women’s compound archery teams settled for silver medals, the women’s team were in for a nail-biting fight wherein they missed out on the gold by three points with the final scoreline being 231-228 and were defeated by Korea.

However, that it didn’t bog them down a thrilling silver was the way to victory. Incidentally, four years back at the same Asian Games, the women’s compound archery team went home with a bronze. Amidst all this, Andhra girl Vennam Jyothi Surekha has been receiving special mention for her relentless performance. She is one of the three members of the team comprising Muskan Kirar and Madhumita Kumari, and while the performance of the other two wavered, Jyothi’s remained consistent and full of concentration.

Her performance has since been lauded by many including the central government.

A month back, the women’s compound archery team officially clutched the top rank from the fifth position. With their silver medal-winning effort in the Antalya and Berlin World Cups, the team enabled to reach the world number one.
