Asian Games 2018: Tennis Player Ankita Raina Brings Home The Bronze!

Girl power!

25-year-old Ankita Raina brought home the first medal for India in Tennis at the ongoing Asian Games in Jakarta. She won the bronze medal in women’s singles after a brilliant fight against Zhang Shuai, who is number 1 in China and 34 in world rank,  going down 4-6 and 6-7 in a tiebreaker.

Her match was memorable enough considering she wasn’t in full fitness and managed to put up quite a fight against someone who is 150 places above her in the WTA rankings.

Her bronze medal was appreciated by Sania Mirza, who showered praises on the 25-year-old. Incidentally, Sania had achieved the same feat back in 2010.

Sania said: “Well done and well fought today @ankita_champ winning a medal for your country is one of the proudest moment you will feel in your life. Cherish this moment and be proud of yourself and the fight .. onwards and upwards ..it’s just the beginning, you’ve got one more shot today.”

Other personalities have since been praising her efforts at the Asian Games.
