Asian Games 2018: Meet India’s Golden Girls!

Making India proud one track at a time.

India’s sportswomen lead yet another victory at the 18th Asian Games on Thursday. The women’s 4X400 metre relay team won gold, adding to the contribution made by other Indian athletes towards the medals tally.

The women’s 4X400m event that included Hima Das, Raju Poovamma, Saritaben Laxmanbhai Gayakwad and Vismaya Koroth clocked in a time of 3:28.72 to finish at the top. Following them was Bahrain who won silver, clocking in their time of 3:30.61 while Vietnam bagged the bronze medal clocking in 3:33.23.

The women’s team gained a much-needed post early on thanks to 18-year-old Hima Das’ speedy performance that paved the way for the other athletes. In the past, the Indian women’s 4X400 m team won gold in 2002, 2006, 2010, 2014, and 2018.

Hima Das is known for creating a record barely a month ago. She got India its first ever track gold at a global event by winning the 400 metre final at the World U20 Championships in Tampere, Finland. Her performance at the Asian Games was still a tad better than her performance at Finland, as she had clocked in 51.46 seconds at the Ratina Stadium, Finland.

Meanwhile, Hima had also bagged the silver at the women’s 400m race, clocking in 50.79 seconds at the ongoing Asian Games.

Congratulatory messages have been pouring in for the athletes.
