Asian Athletics Championship: Gomathi Marimuthu Wins Her Gold On Day 2!

Women prove time and again how unbeatable and invincible they are. Joining that row, 30-year-old Gomathi Marimuthu bagged the first gold for India in this year’s Asian Athletics Championship taking place in Doha’s Khalifa ground.

 

Gomathi beat Kazakhstan’s Margarita Mukasheva and China’s Wang Chunyu at an all-time record of 2 minutes and 2.70 seconds. Her previous best (2:03.21) was the golden run at the Federation Cup at Patiala recently and she just broke her own record as well.

“I did not realise till I crossed the finish line that I have won a gold medal. The last 150m was very tight race,” said Gomathi. This stunning woman is a proud part of Tamil Nadu, her family hails from Trichy.

Further to that, 24-year-old Tejinderpal Singh Toor broke his personal best of 20.75m at first round throw of the Shot Put final and did a suave 20.22m and won his gold for India.
