Calling the leak “deeply unfortunate”, she released a statement talking about how this has mentally affected her. “It’s particularly disturbing and deeply upsetting to see that at a time when the nation has woken up to the #metoo movement, there are still people out there who would harass and attempt to share private pictures of a young girl in the public eye only to derive some perverse pleasure that appeals only to them.”

She also expressed her disappointment over people sharing these pictures. “And each time someone shares it with eye-catching headlines to draw more traction, it scars me deeper and adds to everyone’s participation in my harassment and helplessness.”
While she has reached out to the Mumbai Police on Twitter, it isn’t known if an official complaint has been filed yet or if anyone has been caught pertaining to the leak.
Akshara Haasan, who was last seen in Vivegam last year, is currently working on a project alongside Vikram, produced by her father’s Kamala Haasan’s banner, Raaj Kamal Films.
As per the photo leak, it isn’t the first time it’s happening to a celebrity. In the past, several actresses (and some actors) have fallen victims to this form of cybercrime. Actresses like Trisha, Kareena Kapoor, Radhika Apte, and a few others have had private photos either leaked or screengrabs of intimate scenes from their films shared without context. The aim of these leaks has been mostly to slut-shame the actress and shame her for expressing sexuality. The infamous ‘Suchi Leaks’ from last year, wherein private photos and videos of various personalities went viral allegedly due to singer Suchithra Karthik, has shown how voyeuristic the public has been when it comes to such cases.
