9 Actors Who Proved Their Mettle Through Small Budget Films!

Media is by far the most competitive industry currently. Unlike IT industry, where the number of vacancies does not run out, here there is plenty of room for everyone and that is the problem. Making a mark and remaining in the hearts of the public is extremely difficult. It all depends on the first few choices one makes. Which is why everyone wants to work with a big director, in a big film, even if it’s a small role, chances are people might notice you. This has been the age-old technique, but today we have certain actors who proved this wrong, who proved that all one needs is talent and the right story to make the mark, it doesn’t matter if the director or the movie is big or small.

 

Vijay Sethupathi:  Following a stint as an accountant, Sethupathi began considering an acting career. He played minor roles in many films. He did not wait for the big film. A product of Kuthu Patarai Sethupathi played his first lead role in Seenu Ramasamy’s Thenmerku Paruvakaatru. Although the movie was small, it did well at the box office. He is now one of the leading stars in par with Dhanush and Vikram and continues to work with new directors and in new roles. His recent film Vikram Vedha is another example.

 

Aishwarya Rajesh: Aishwarya Rajesh made her debut in Avargalum Ivargalum (2011) and became known after starring in Attakathi(2012) portraying the role of Amudha directed by Pa.Ranjith. Her first film as the female lead was Rummy directed by K.Balakrishnan. She is one of those few actresses who started small to grow big.

 

Attakathi Dinesh:  After playing multiple supporting roles, Dinesh made his debut as a lead with Ranjith’s Attakathi. His acclaimed performances include his roles in Visaranai, Cuckoo, Oru Naal Koothu and  Kabali.

 

Kalaiarasan:  Kalaiarasan is Myshkkin’s amazing find. He played small roles in Nandalala, Mugamoodi and Ranjith’s Attakathi. He got his break by acting in Ranjith’s Madras. He continues to work with new directors and small films. His recent hit Adhe Kangal gave him positive feedback from the audience.

 

Nivetha Pethuraj: She is just two films old but is already favourite among the Tamil audience. Her debut film Oru Naal Koothu directed by Nelson was a small budget film that won the hearts of many through her performance.

 

Remya Nambeesan: After doing minor roles in Tamil and Malayalam, Remya got her lead role in Kullanari Kuttam directed by Sribalaji. Her performanc was highly praised by critics. She then became part of hit movies like Pizza and Sethupathi.

 

Anjali: She made her Tamil film debut in Kattradhu Thamizh, directed by Ram, which released to strong critical acclaim. Anjali won critical praise for her portrayal of Anandhi. She proved that she is an actor of substance after acting in movies like Angadi Theru and Engeyum Epothum, proving that all one needs is a good story to prove themselves.

 

Jai Jai got his debut with a bunch of others in Venkat Prabhu’s Chennai 28. Though he was considered the lead, he shared screen space with many potential actors, yet made his mark. His next film was  with Debut Director Sasikumar in Subramaniapuram which got him the mark in the Industry for his amazing performance.

 

Sasikumar: Sasikumar is one of those few who does not need anyone else to launch him. The actor made his debut in his own film Subramaniapuram and was critically acclaimed for both his roles as Director and Actor. His Director friend Samutharakani casted him in Nadodigal that gained him praise for his performance.
