7 Times The Bigg Boss Contestants Were Absolutely Narrow-Minded!

Don’t we already have enough to deal with when it comes to societal “rules”? Irrespective of gender, one is fighting discrimination every day from those old norms that have tied the hands of our country and are preventing Her from developing. Norms and regulations in the name of “culture” have left a lot of individuals the way they are today. Hence, it is important to spread either nothing or just some feel-good messages even if it comes under the entertainment category.

Bigg Boss is one of those reality shows that is apparently meant to teach “way of life and living”. With such a positive note as the base for the show, a lot could have been taught, lessons learnt and also some good entertainment shown. But no, bizarre tasks like making fun of mental illness is what this show has been all about.

It is not completely bad or it does not always give out a wrong notion (read Oviya). Yes, it is just a game but no, there have been incidents where the audience has taken it way too seriously. For example, Sakthi’s car was attacked by the so-called “Oviya army” as he made an appearance in public. It is quite sensitive, be it with the audience or be it with the contestants in the House.

There have been a lot of times where contestants have been narrow-minded, sexists, misogynists and haven’t frowned away from demeaning an individual. Here are 7 times these contestants set a bad example to the world:

Singing a song for Suja Varunee: She is a new contestant and the first thing she would look up to in the House is to sense a feeling of acceptance. But, no, our contestants had other ideas. From Gayathri to Vaiyapuri, they decided to pass comments on her character the day she arrived. Was singing ‘Kattipudi kattipudi da’ necessary? No, it is not humorous. You have judged her character already and have very indirectly slut shamed her. With that thought, what one does with their body, their profession is no one’s business as long as they do not cause a threat to the society. Vaiyapuri crying because his joke was taken seriously is lame and over dramatic. You do not have to feel insulted, you just have to accept it and walk away.

Oviya’s “history”: That classic sentence by Gayathri where she tells Aarav, “I know Oviya’s past” and hinting him indirectly to not fall for her is easily the cheapest thing to do. Her “past” is something that belongs to her life. No individual has the Right to judge her character and demean her by merely listening to rumours and never thinking from her perspective. That line was awful, unnecessary and it only goes to show what side of the Society one represents.

Oviya’s dress: Dear Snehan, it is not hard to stay true, try it for once. There was a very brief time when you literally hated Oviya for a quarrel she had with you. You were very much part of the gang that led her to the situation last week. You could have had a lot of difference of opinions from what she said but judging her character by her clothes was seriously the worst you have managed to say till date. She can wear what she wants to and no matter what, you CANNOT comment and most of all, judge her character by her clothes. So, if you are looking at someone exposing their skin, wonder why your eyes wander there!

Raiza’s modelling background: Raiza can be anything she wishes to do, at least she has done that by her choice. There was no need for Gayathri to comment on Raiza’s modelling and her “not so famous” background. Gayathri saying “who is she and what is her background? How can she talk to ME that way” goes to show how narrow-minded one could get. Quoting Kamal,”In this House, no one is superior to the other and no one is elder to the other. Everyone’s equal.” Just saying!

Gayathri’s comments: If someone is younger, it gives one no Right to talk whatever against them because they are young. It is quite hard to list out the number of unthoughtful comments this contestant had passed as they are never-ending. From Julie to Snehan, there is not one contestant Gayathri has not thrashed. (No, I’m not including Sakthi here).

Vaiyapuri’s washing task comments: Vaiyapuri cannot get away with his lewd comments by using the “age 48” phrase every time. I mean, Kamal is 62 and he has never ever gotten away with age. It was a washing task and saying stuff like “Paavam, these women have only been in the air conditioner. Making them wash isn’t good” sounds more sarcastic than pity. Humour can be offensive but not to a stage where the target is just women (Especially Raiza).

Sakthi’s male ego comment: Ah, the master of all comments above is this one when Sakthi said, “When a woman raises her hand it hurts my male ego”. Well, yes. That “male ego” is what is causing most of the crimes today against women. When on a reality show and when the cameras are watching, it is very important to stay socially responsible because directly or indirectly it will make a lot of “males” think about their “egos”.

Which other comment do you think made you cringe while you watched the show?
