Affairs are and have always been controversial; especially when it involves famous actors. Fans and audience have heard numerous rumours about co-stars being in a relationship. However, some of these stars have made no comments, some of them have made public appearances.
Since many of the South male stars are married, rumours of their alleged affairs with actresses have not only shocked the fans but also the industry. Some of them don’t look eye-to-eye, whereas others have managed to dismiss the rumours and have been friends. Here are some of the affairs which topped headlines in South Cinema.
Prabhudeva and Nayanthara
That’s one couple that had gone public with their relationship. Many fans of Prabhudeva expressed disappointment when he separated from his wife of 15 years Ramlath, who changed her name to Latha. The couple has three children but unfortunately, their eldest son passed away due to cancer in 2008. His wife opposed their affair and live-in relationship. Many women’s organisations also burnt an effigy of Nayanthara during the affair. In 2010, the couple (Prabhudeva-Latha) got divorced, however, in 2012, Nayanthara confirmed that they had ended their relationship. Theirs was one of the most talked about relationships in the tinsel town.
Nikita Thukral and Darshan
Nikita Thukral was reportedly banned from Kannada films for three years starting from 10 September 2011 by the Kannada Film Producers’ Association (KFPA) for an alleged illicit relationship with actor Darshan. The ban was implemented after Darshan’s wife accused him of assaulting her and in her complaint, she suggested that Thukral had been responsible for the violence. Consequently, Nikita denied the claims, calling them “ridiculous” and asked for proof, announcing a voluntary break from Kannada films for trying to ruin her image. Since the announcement of her ban, other film personalities had rallied in support of Thukral, who had been in hospital at the time due to low blood pressure and stress. Subsequently, the ban was revoked after five days of extensive protesting against the KFPA’s original decision.
Anirudh and Andrea
Music composer Anirudh and western singer Andrea were rumoured to be going out together for years but it was evident only when pictures of them kissing had surface all over online. Both were young and felt the wrath of going viral and had issued a statement saying they had split and the pictures were apparently very old!
Kavya Madhavan and Dileep
This relationship was controversial at its best! Actor Dileep was already embroiled in the case of a sexual assault and abduction of an actress when he left his ex-wife Manju Warrier to marry Kavya Madhavan. Rumours were ripe that the two had been seeing each other for quite a while and it was then no surprise that it happened!
Nagarjuna and Tabu
Even to this day, Nagarjuna and Tabu starrer ‘Ninne Pelladata’ is one of the most loved movies of Tollywood. What made headlines apart from their sizzling chemistry on screen, is the rumoured affair that they have had for years. Though the stars have never commented on the rumours, they’ve always maintained that they are great friends. Even Nagarjuna’s gorgeous wife Amala has made several public appearances with the Bollywood star, proving that they are definitely good friends! Flashback to the newspapers in the early 2000s, you’ll not miss the rumoured reports.
Shruthi Haasan and Dhanush
Superstar Rajinikanth’s famous son-in-law, actor Dhanush topped headlines for his rumoured affair with Kamal Haasan’s eldest daughter Shruti Haasan. Tabloids went all out and published numerous reports on how Dhanush’s wife Aishwaryaa was miffed with the star and the lead stars of her directorial ‘3’. Reports also suggested that both the families got involved in order to clarify the tiff. However, in 2012, Shruti Haasan denied the rumours and said she had no affair with the star and that she’s great friends with Aishwaryaa Dhanush.
Simbu Hansika
They fell in love, fell out of love and it was all over social media. He was later even quoted as saying, “I had gone through enough in this relationship, and after much of thoughts invested into this I hereby declare that I am single now. I have nothing to do what so ever with Hansika and it is all the story of the past.” Rumours held that Hansika’s mother was not too keen on the relationship as the actress was slowly climbing up the success ladder. Others say Hansika was angry with Simbhu option to work with ex-girlfriend Nayanthara in Idhu Namma Aalu.
Kamal and Simran
In the early 2000s local press had gone overboard with reports of the then top actress Simran’s affair with Kamal Haasan. When they acted together in ‘Panchatanthiram’, their rocking chemistry was a talk of the town. Many reports also suggested that the duo were spotted together off the sets. However, in an interview with The Hindu, the actress denied all the reports and said he was her mentor and they never had a relationship.
Khushbu and Prabhu
The already famous star Khushbu’s career was in danger when the tabloids published reports of her alleged affair and secret wedding with married actor Prabhu. Shivaji Ganesan’s son Prabhu was also a huge star then and the reports shook the industry. Khushbu was termed homewrecker, however, she later got over the ‘affair’ and rebuilt her career.
Amala Paul and A L Vijay
Amala Paul and A.L Vijay met at the sets of Deiva Thirumagal in 2011 and fell in love. They announced that they were getting married in 2014 and it had been two years since they are married. Their divorce news came as a shock to many of their fans and the industry. The marriage hit the rocks after the actress and the director seems to have had a lot of differences. Vijay is extremely upset that Amala has chosen to continue acting after marriage. Sources say initially Amala promised that she will quit acting after the wedding but she has kept signing more films including Dhanush’s Vada Chennai. Post-divorce both of them seem to have moved on with AL Vijay to get married again!
