Vijay Deverakonda On Shahid Kapoor’s ‘Kabir Singh’ | JFW Exclusive

Read the exclusive interview here!

Vijay Deverakonda has captured the attention of many from the young to the old with his acting and back-to-back hit films. Being a rank outsider, he has created an impact in Telugu cinema. This much talked of and in-the-news 29-year-old actor is super cool with his success and raring to do epic roles and films. The rather unfazed Vijay is happy to talk about his films and himself in this interview with RADHIKA RAJAMANI

He may have made his debut in 2010 with Nuvvila but his last few films since 2016 have been smash hits and catapulted this actor to the top. He is the current sensation, the heartthrob, especially amongst the younger generations, and the much spoken of actor in the Telugu film industry now. His films like Pelli Choopulu, Mahanati, Arjun Reddy and Geetha Govindam cleared away the struggle he underwent since 2010. Awards and accolades aside, Vijay Deverakonda is riding high on success but has not let that affect him in any way.

“It is super relieving when a film works for sure!”

Every actor likes a film to do well. When a film hits the bull’s eye, Vijay says it’s a huge relief. But what happens when a film doesn’t work? “You expend a lot of energy when you are creating something, you put a lot of yourself, your energy, you put your name, your credibility – so many things at stake. When it releases and when it doesn’t work, you feel drained more than happy, sad, upset. Then I need to motivate myself, push myself, work hard and get on my feet. When a film works, the acknowledgement you get from people refuels you. You automatically feel lighter because you are getting so much energy from the audience, from the world out there that there is a spring in your step and you can take on more work. So it is like an energy game – use and receive.”

“I never say no to possibilities in life”

Vijay is open to doing films in different languages. But irrespective of the language, he believes the film should have a Telugu release. “It is my mother tongue and a huge number of people are waiting to watch you. At least it should be dubbed in Telugu,” he shares.

Bearing this in mind, he does feel elated when any of his films are remade. On Arjun Reddy‘s Hindi remake starring Shahid Kapoor, he says, “It’s so cool that the story I decided to tell has been found worthy enough to be said in another language!”

“The bonding continues…”

On working with debutante directors, Vijay says it’s a wholesome experience altogether. “There are good days, there are bad days, you love each other, you hate each other, you quarrel, you agree but in the end, you create something together and they become a part of your life. Nagi (Nag Ashwin) has become an integral part of my life. I did Mahanati purely because of him. Tharun’s become a super close friend of mine. We always meet and talk even though we did the film in 2016. Sandeep’s (Arjun Reddy’s director) become a part of my life too.
