Trekking, Camping And Periods

Travelling to new destinations can be refreshing and exciting. Adventure travel is a whole new experience, something that everyone must do at least once in their lives. Talking about women and travelling, the most inevitable question that rises is “How can I travel during menstruation?”. Regular travel might still make it a lot better for you. But with adventure travel, you ought to make some sacrifices so that you can balance your adventure and your period. Here’s what you can do:

Menstrual Cups:

The concept of menstrual cups has been prevailing for a while now and more women are taking to menstrual cups to handle their periods. The theory behind a menstrual cup is that, you insert it into your vagina( Yes, inside your vagina) and wait for it to fill up with your menstrual blood. Later, you can remove the cup and dispose the menstrual waste. The cup is reusable and this is exactly why it is perfect for travelling. When you are trekking or camping, it is wise to not dump waste. Dumping your sanitary napkins is a bad idea especially because it takes months and days to degrade. However, before you travel, it is advisable if you use these menstrual cups a couple of times before getting used to the idea.

Tampons:

Their smaller size is the main reason why it is travel friendly. They don't utilize much cart space. Tampons can be used when you are trekking and you can dispose them into a small garbage bag. By disposing them into the same bag, you can dump them at a nearby village's dumpster. By all means, refrain from dumping your sanitary waste into the woods and hilly areas.

Reusable Pads:

Reusable Pads can be your travel buddy. You could coil them up and pack them so that they don't take more space. However, these pads need to be washed to be reused. Hence, you need to consider the water availability before opting for a reusable pad.
