The Truth About Heels That Your Girlfriends Will Never Tell You!

I once bought a beautiful pair of wedges two years ago. Not only were they really pretty, but they were equally expensive as well. In this two years of owning them, I wore them only once; in the store before I purchased them. Two years have passed and I made no attempts in even trying them out. Now that I think about it, I really have no idea as to why I bought them in the first place.

It has made me wonder, why does one choose to wear high-heeled shoes over flats? Sure, if you are short, it gives you an additional inch or two. Yes, it gives an air of confidence for women while walking. What other reason do you have to compromise on all kinds of health risks just to wear high heels?

It has to be noted that most of the women who wear high heels, find it extremely uncomfortable and unbearable. Most of the women have at least one pair of shoes that they will probably never wear (including me). So why go to all the lengths to wear shoes you most definitely do not like?

Why do women wear heels?

Alright, before we go on to list all the hazards of the deadly heels, let us consider why the female population even wears them. This is like asking a chain-smoker why he smokes. Of course, it’s not healthy. He knows it, you know it and the entire world knows it. Yet there is still something that drags people into it.

Likewise, heels too have a grappling hook on women. According to experiments, it is actually found that women in heels walk more attractively than those in flats. Unlike wearing flats, heels forces out a tilt in the hips while walking. This brings out a rather attractive and confident walk from women.

Wearing heels attracts male attention. Many experiments have been carried out to test out the attractiveness of both flats and heels, and guess what? Heels won them all! Wearing heels bring out the feminine side in women. Heels are ladylike and girly. The mere posture and walk bring out the woman in oneself.

Heels bring out an air of confidence and power in you. The extra two inches puts you higher than the rest. There is just something in those stilettos that makes you seem more persuasive and commanding.

The much-known health risks

Now that you have seen the reason why women wear heels, it is time, to begin with, the negatives. It is, as they say, one should know both sides of a story before you form conclusions.

If you probably have poor toenail growth, it is mostly due to your high heels. Heels compress your toes and hence nails tend to grow inwards. Most of nail and fungal infections happen because of this. High heels also increase the risk of bunions.

The most common side effects of heels are hip and knee pains. Women tend to bend a little when wearing high heels which cause a strain in knee joints and hips. The more often high heels are worn, the more the strain on your hips, back, and calves. Most of the muscle pain you get is because of the heels you wear.

Is it actually worth it?

Now that we have seen both why women actually wear heels and the reasons to not wear them, let us try answering this million-dollar question. Is it worth it at all? I personally will never bank for heels. Honestly speaking, I can’t pull them off. In simpler terms, I trip a lot while wearing heels. I just wish I had this sense before purchasing those wedges of mine.

It can’t be helped that the modern culture includes wearing stilettos and pumps. Women are expected to wear heels in many places. Before you are forced into wearing heels, one should always remember to do what one feels like doing. Never be pushed around to do something you are not willing to do. If you are more comfortable wearing heels, then, by all means, do so. Make sure you wear the correct pair of shoes. Do not compromise on your health by the following fashion. If you are someone like me, who probably cannot walk around in heels, then never touch them. Even if it is part of your dress code, say no to it.

Beauty and fashion are viewed best in those who are comfortable. Only you can tell what would suit you the best. The whole world can ask you to wear heels, but if you do not want to, then don’t. No point in buying a costly pair of shoes and crying later as you can’t wear it.
