Sri Lanka: Women not allowed to buy alcohol, again!

A progressive step in which women in Sri Lanka were allowed the same rights as men to buy alcohol legally has been banned once again after just a few days of lifting the ban. President Maithripala Sirisena oversaw the withdrawal of the reform in which women were allowed to buy alcohol and allowing women to work in bars without a permit. He said he found out the ban was lifted when he saw it in papers and was unaware till so. Amending a 1995 law it has been noted that some women welcome the change as it would mean alcohol would be sold during business hours of the day.
