The movie takes off on a high note and is engaging from the word go! The first half has some nail biting scenes and will leave at the edge of your seats till the intermission. It is only in the second half you push back your seats and see the court proceedings unfold in front of your eyes.
Meenal Arora (Taapsee Pannu), Falak Ali (Kriti Kulhari) and Andrea (Andrea Tariang) find themselves in a frightening mess of events after they go out with Rajveer (Angad Bedi) and his friends whom they meet at a rock concert. We are not shown what happened that fateful night, but get to know the details one by one through the court proceedings. The girls say that the boys forced themselves on them and the guys fight saying that it is a case of solicitation. The boys try to prove that the girls are 'that' kind of women and they had demanded money.
Enters Amitabh Bachchan (Deepak Sehgal), the mysterious neighbor who offers to help the girls by representing them in court. He is a renowned lawyer who has retired from work due to his medical condition, but comes back to fight the girls's case.
The story, screenplay and performances are so real and that's what makes this film a classic. Every young urban women in the country can relate to them and empathize with the plight of the girls. The movie reflects a mirror on the society's mindset and prejudices towards women. Taapsee Pannu emerges as the real star of the film. She is the bravest of the three girls and we see how the incident crumbles her determination and self resolve. We can imagine how it must feel for so many women in the country who are fighting molestation or rape cases. How women empowerment takes two steps back with every such incident.
The film takes a dig on various social prejudices present in the society and puts light on the issue of consent. The movie is a slap in face for everyone who says 'she asked for it.' It is an important film and if you are going to watch one movie this year, make it PINK!
