One day before the National Girl Child Day, Lakshmi, the poster child of a Humans Rights Organization, was crushed by a school bus, underlining all the risks of her childhood on the streets. She lived in an extremely tiny house developed out of discarded plywood available nearby, as that was all her parents could afford. The empty bottles were her toys and her father used to sell them for money.
One of her empty bottle toy rolled down the road and she ran behind it not noticing the traffic. A speeding school bus, unaware of the child crushed her under the wheels. Her family had left their home in Rajasthan’s Ajmer district in the hope of earning better in the capital city. Unfortunately, the family lost both their children on the streets. Lakshmi’s elder brother, Teju, also died at this very place due to Pneumonia.
“Lakshmi was a beautiful child. See even the NGO people selected her glowing face for their poster,” said Gyarsi, Lakshmi’s grandmother, to IndiaTimes. The poster of the girl was created by Center for holistic Development for its milk distribution program to impoverished children.
