Chennai, Monday: 3:00Pm: The Chengalpet court has convicted mechanical engineer Dhasvanth in the rape and murder of seven-year-old Hasini in Chennai; A year after he had brutally raped the girl, dumped her body in a travel bag and set it ablaze at the Mugalivakkam highway near his home. The court held Dhasvanth guilty on all charges including those under POCSO. He has been convicted under sections 363 (kidnapping), 366 (kidnapping, abduction), 354-b (assault or use of criminal force on woman with intent to disrobe), 302 (murder), and 201 (causing disappearance of evidence) of the IPC and section 8 read with 7, 6, 5(M) of POCSO.
A year ago, 7-year-old Hasini was brutally raped and horrifically killed by 23-year-old IT man, S.Dawant. Let out on bail, he later committed another murder, that of his mother. Now the court has sentenced him to death and it is reported that he showed no guilty feelings whatsoever!
Daswant is a mechanical engineer living in Mugalivakkam with his parents Sekar and Sarala. Last year he lured 7-year-old Hasini who stays in the same apartment complex, on Feb 2017 to his home. He sexually assaulted her and suffocated her to death. He got some petrol, and put the body in a travel bag and burnt her body by the highway near his home. The police had arrested Daswant on the grounds of the Goondas Act. The case was registered at Chennai’s Mangadu police station with the cross-examination of 34 witnesses done in a span of two months.
Later that year, Daswant’s father applies for his bail in Mahila Court in Chengalpet; Daswant was out on bail during September. Daswant’s mother was found in a pool of blood, murdered and gold jewellery including her thaali and pair of bangles missing. Daswant was missing from the flat with his bike gone and mobile switched off.
He was later caught at Mahalaxmi Race Court in Mumbai by a special team. He had been frequently changing his appearance to look less recognizable. On December 6th however, Daswant who was still handcuffed as he sat to eat lunch at a hotel with policemen around him, escapes and tries to make a break for it. On December 8th, Chennai Police along with Mumbai police nabbed him once again and he confessed to all the murders including the plan he had laid to murder his father.
