Blazing Fashion Trends of 2016 !

The countdown to the end of 2016 has begun;it’s time we looked back at the trends that ruled the fashion industry. Varsha Abhay presents a roundup of all that was hot and happening on the runways this year.

The Slip Dress

A trend that is reminiscent of the ’90s, the slip dress has found its way to runways, red carpet events, parties and even our bedrooms. With a little variation in style, the slip dress has been on the fashion charts for the longest time. You can wear the slinky dress with some statement jewellery or a long coat or just go plain. Since it’s a bold fashion move, pick a dress that fits well, too tight or too loose will not look very pleasing. The classic one in silk and chiffon or the one with floral or checkered print is a good way to start.

Chokers

2016 saw another trend from the yesteryear revive into a trend of today. Chokers are a tricky fashion accessory that became extremely popular when celebrities and fashionistas were seen donning it. Apart from the elegant Indian chokers that are made in uncut diamonds or kundans or even pearls, the trend this year was to wear the chokers made fromelastic and cloth. The band-type chokers were a hot favourite and were paired with pretty off shoulder tops.

Shirtdress

A wardrobe staple this year, the shirtdress was a favourite on social media. Worn to the airport, to office, to a party or to the movies, this trend went absolutely universal. Dress it up with a bold shade of lipstick and a pair of killer heels or wear it with strappy flats and a tote, there are unlimited ways that you can style the shirtdress with.

Off/Cold Shoulder

The internet went crazy with this trend all throughout this year. And if you still don’t have a dress or a top that bares those shoulders, then its time. A request is to not pair it with a necklace unless it is a choker. With a Bohemian vibe, the off shoulder movement has been the talk of the town in 2016. Off shoulder blouses, dresses, tops and even kurtis are catching on this season.

Scrunched Hair

The trend of sporting the sleek straight hair is old news;it’s time to ditch those for curly locks. We are talking about the curly-wavy hair that has become a rage among everyone. It’s simple and easy to do, whether you have short hair or long hair, this trendy way to wear your hair is the current sensation. Give the boring straight hair look a break and opt for these wonderful waves to look chic and in this year.

Culottes

Jeans took a backseat this year with culottes and palazzos making the cut to the top trends. Culottes are knee-length trousers that resemble a skirt. It flares and is airy and the right pick for the Indian climate. These cropped pants give you the comfort of pants and the breeziness of a skirt. Style this uber cool trouser with a vest and blazer on Fridays at work or with a floral top for Sunday outings.

Trench Vest

Winter has set in and you need to equip yourself with some outerwear. The trendiest options this year are the Trench Coats. But this gets a makeover with a sleeveless option, bright bold colour and even prints. The trench coat is a classic, it comes out every winter and then heads back into the closet waiting for the winter to arrive again. Aishwarya Rai in Ae Dil Hai Mushkil wears the prettiest trench coats setting the trend for the cold months to come.

White Sneakers

A simple pair of white shoes wassuch a common trend seen this season. Women threw away their pointy heels and thick platforms for these comfortable shoes. With dresses, shorts, culottes, trousers et al, the trend complements every attire. Shoes are no longer reserved for the gym, they have found their way to the fashion runways. Take notes from celebrities to style the sneakers and look fashionable.

Closed Neck Blouse

Sarees are evergreen;it is the most beautiful attire a woman can be dressed in. To match up to the classic this year, the trend was to stitch your blouses with closed necks. Slightly different from a boat neck, closed neck blouses have been doing the rounds this festive season. Design your blouses in a fabric you prefer but people are nuts about ones with translucent necks or those heavily embellished necklines.

Crop Top Lehenga

The wedding season saw this trend in plenty. Ditching the traditional lehenga for this contemporary style was the most loved festive trend. From Katrina Kaif in Baar Baa rDekho to our pride in silver, PV Sindhu, all carried off this trend with élan. You can go all festive and have a heavily bedecked blouse and skirt or keep it subtle with florals, or even mix and match your skirt with one of your favourite cropped tops.
