5 Times Ola Cabs Made News For The Wrong Reasons!

Ola cabs is one of the fastest growing app based taxi services in India. Ola which was launched in 2010 has grown steadily for the past 6 years and is currently valued at 500 crore rupees. However this tremendous amount of success does not come without it’s own share of mistakes and glitches. 

 

Customer Charged 9 lakh for a trip!

Recently a customer got a heart attack when he was charged Rs. 9.15 lakh after his trip from Jubliee Hill to Nizamabad in Hyderabad. Ola had introduced their Out station trips recently and when the customer checked for his ride estimate, it was approximately Rs. 5000 but when he reached his destination the amount was Rs. 9 lakh. Even the driver was shocked and when contacted Ola they found it was a glitch and the customer was billed Rs. 4812.

 

Ola laid off 700 employees!

Ola which took over another app based cab service, Taxi For Sure in 2014 decided to pull the plug and lay off nearly 700 employees who were working with the service. This move made headlines across all financial platforms as it was considered as a step towards fighting tough competition with rival service, Uber.

 

Ola Drivers Rape 12-year-old

Though this incident did not occur while the drivers were on duty, it was certain that the drivers were indeed Ola employees. A 12-year-old girl, was allegedly forced into an Ola cab by 2 drunken Ola drivers and raped in Kolkata. This news triggered wide spread protests in the city where Ola was trying to find it's foot hold. Ola immediately dismissed the drivers from service and clarified that the incident was under their platform

Customers vent out anger on surge pricing

Through out India, Ola customers are complaining about the sudden and unwarranted surge pricing of Ola services. During rains when transport is of foremost important to people, Ola surges its prices to meet the demand. This has not been taken well by its customers and they have taken it to social media to bash the cab service giant.

Though this is faced by any consumer company, we need to mention that Ola's customer complaints have created a stir in social media platforms. Ola has become a household name in all major metros and the cab service is trying to take over autos and other private public transports.
