THUPPAKKI

 

A perfect blend of patriotism and entertainment this film is one of the very few films that showed an army officer's life. Vijay, an army officer comes home for his vacation and stumbles upon a plan of terror strikes by sleeper cells in Mumbai. He attempts to foil their plan at any cost. The film described what is the reality of army personnel when are caught by the enemies.

ROJA

 

A blockbuster hit, set in Kashmir, the story revolves around a woman whose husband is kidnapped by terrorists. Although the film follows Madhu and her attempts to release her husband from the terrorists, the film also dealt with the insurgency and complicated situation in Kashmir. With Rahman's patriotic music and Mani Ratnam's direction, this film sparked the Indian in all of us.

UNNAIPOL ORUVAN

 

Set in modern Chennai, the film is about a very unusual day in the life of a police commissioner. Kamal Haasan threatens to blow up the city until a handful of terrorists are released. The police commissioner played by Mohanlal, without a choice is forced to release them just to find out that Kamal kills all 4 released terrorists. He explains that India has a forgetfulness problem and we easily forget what our enemies do to us. With Mohanlal and Kamal's stunning acting, the film was a tear jerker!

INDIAN

 

The film directed by Shankar, reminded us of how we take our freedom for granted. The movie put a light on state of affairs in India after 50 years of Independence. With rampant corruption and disrespect for freedom fighters, Kamal Haasan who almost died to give India independence from the Britishers take things into his own hands to solve the problem, just like he did during the British time. An amazing movie with details on our freedom struggle before our eyes, this film is a much watch!

MADRASAPATTINAM

 

A love story about a British girl and a laundryman, this film managed to wake up the Indian in us. The film showed how unfair Britishers treated us and why we needed our independence so desperately. At the brink of independence, this couple left in a fix about their love for each other fight their way to be together.


MUDHALVAN

 

The idealistic hero and the villain who is just too proud to acknowledge someone better than him, Mudhalvan was a political thriller that dealt with idealism, patriotism, ego-clashes, and family. The film did so well that it prompted director Shankar Shanmugham to make a Hindi version of it, which incidentally also did well.
