5 Controversial Murders That Shook The Country!

We hear about rape and murders everyday via newspapers and TV. But only some cases really hit our consciousness and these murders will never be forgotten in the test of time. We list few such murders that sent shivers down the spine! 

 

SHEENA BORA MURDER CASE

Sheena Bora went missing on April 24, 2012. In August, 2015, her mother Indrani Mukerjea and her step father Sanjeev Khanna and Indrani’s driver Shyamvar Rai were arrested for abducting and murdering Sheena. The murder case shook the entire country last year as there were so many vicious twists and turns the case took with the national media covering every move of the case with utmost importance. What made the case a rare one was Indrani had introduced Sheena as her sister to everybody and nobody actually knew it is her daughter from her first marriage.

AARUSHI TALWAR MURDER CASE

This case proved to one of the most mysterious and controversial murders of the decade! One of the most talked about in Television media, the case took an ugly turn when the police suggested that it was a case of honor killing. In May, 2008, Aarushi Talwar and her servant Hemraj were found murdered. The parents became the prime suspects and were taken into custody. As the initial investigations by the Noida police was so botched up, the CBI who later took over the case could not prove the parents guilty. In 2013, the court however charged them and sent them to life imprisonment. The case is still pending in the Supreme court of India.

TANDOOR MURDER CASE

Sushil Sharma, a Congress party leader murdered his wife in a fit of rage after he suspected of having an affair with another party member. Sharma’s wife was shot dead at their home on July 2, 1995 and her body was chopped into pieces and stuffed into a tandoor or open clay oven at a popular restaurant in the heart of Delhi managed by the politician’s friend. Policemen patrolling the area saw thick smoke from the tandoor and found her dismembered half-burnt body. Mr Sharma fled, but was arrested a week later. The trial and high court ruled that he should be hanged by Supreme court changed that to a life imprisonment. Sushil Sharma was let go in 2015 after he served a 20 year jail sentence.

JESSICA LAL MURDER CASE

This cold blooded murder shook the country when the main accused in the case was let go by a trial court in 2006. Jessica Lal, a celebrity barmaid in Delhi and was shot dead by an powerful MP’s son when she refused him drinks in February 1999. After major protests erupting all over the country over the trial court’s judgement, the High court was forced to fast track the judicial process and finally in December 2006, the accused Manu Sharma was convicted of murder and was sentenced to life in prison.

NITHARI KILLINGS

One of the most gruesome murders that the country has ever come across, this case turned out to be a challenge to the police. The serial murders took place in the house of Moninder Singh Pandher in Nithari, Noida and his servant Surinder Koli was convicted of raping and killing several girls in the locality. The police recovered skeletons and other belongings of missing girls from the drain outside Pandher’s house in Noida. Koli had allegedly killed several girls, chopping their bodies to pieces before throwing them in the backyard and in the drain. The owner of the house Moninder was also charged as an accomplice in the case. After awarding death sentence to Koli, his sentence was changed to life imprisonment in 2014 by the Allahabad High court.
