For movie-lovers, biopics hold a special place as they relate to an era gone by that had eclectic people ruling roost. In the past, several biopics were made and they were predominantly on men. With heroine-centric movies becoming the order of the day, biopics on women is on the rise. The classic example is Padmaavat, lead by Deepika Padukone recently. Though it had its share of controversies, it still made an impact.

Nithya Menen
Ever since the demise of J Jayalalithaa, several filmmakers were keen to do a movie on her. Filmmaker Priyadarshini announced one and it was made official that Nithya Menen would play the lead. The first look poster, which was released on the death anniversary of the former Chief Minister, was realistic and has increased the film’s expectations.
Hansika
The bubbly actress will play the role of actress Jayapradha. Hansika is part of former Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister and matinee idol N T Ramarao’s biopic in Telugu titled Kathanayakudu. The movie features Ramarao’s son Balakrishna aka Balayya. The big budget biopic is directed by Krish. Vidya Balan is playing the wife of NTR in Basavatarakam. Rakul Preet Singh is acting as iconic actress Sridevi. It may be recalled that Jayapradha acted in maximum movies with NTR. Interestingly, Hansika has worked hard and put on weight to suit the role.
Keerthy Suresh
Call it guts on the part of Keerthy Suresh to play legendary actress Savithri during the early stages of her career. Mahanati not just won her name and fame but made sure she disproved critics who said that she is most suited to play a typical heroine who dance for a romantic song and disappear. She suited the role so well that fans of the legendary actress gave a thumbs up to her performance. Keerthy had stated that Mahanati has changed her life a lot.
Richa Chadha
When you speak about south Indian cinema, it is difficult not to mention actress Shakeela. She faced trials and tribulations to come up in life and at one point her films gave a tough competition to Malayalam superstars Mohanlal and Mammootty. Now actress Richa Chadha will be playing Shakeela in an upcoming movie. The first look of the actress as Shakeela was released recently and it went viral on social media. The Shakeela biopic is being directed by Indrajit Lankesh.
Anushka Shetty
Anushka is known for doing versatile role. Be it Arundhathee, Bhagamathee or Baahubali, she gave her best. Now the actress is all set to play the lead in a biopic on veteran actress Saroja Devi. An iconic star in Tamil and Telugu cinema, Saroja Devi had acted with MGR, Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, NTR among others. Reports say that Shalini Pandey of Arjun Reddy fame is playing Sowcar Janaki in the biopic.
